LonelyBond #56 - Structuring The Entire Plot

Thank you for joining me to the weekly LonelyBond blog, where each week I discuss with you about the struggles, achievements and behind the scenes of making the game come to life :)

This week I've completed the work on the structure of the entire story arc of the game.

The story is going to consist of 5 chapters:

  • Exposition + Conflict 1

  • Conflict 2

  • Conflict 3

  • Conflict 4

  • Finishing chapter - Mega conflict

The last chapter, the mega conflict, was a hard one to write down, as it needs to payoff everything that was built in the game in a satisfying manner, but I think I managed to do it this past week (thank to more great help from my friends).

The middle conflicts (2 through 4) are more or less planned out as well. Each is separate from the other, and could stand on his own, but all of them are key to learning more about the characters in the orphanage, and the main mystery at large. Without them, the final chapter will be meaningless.

And at last (but technically first?) is the exposition chapter.

It's kind of the hardest one to write, and therefore I'm still working on making it right.

The first chapter has a lot of tasks it needs to accomplish, some of them are:

  • Introduce the key characters

  • Give the player his special power in a satisfying yet mysterious manner

  • Teach the player the basics of his bonding power

  • Learning about the main conflict of this chapter

It's not an easy feat to balance everything tightly to the first chapter, especially when the player has no prior knowledge about the characters, the plot or the mechanics.

So... yeah. It's still very much in progress.

I'm sorry if some of the stuff that I've written are a bit vague - I can't wait to share more with you but I really don't want to spoil the experience for you before the first chapter is playable :)

And with all of that being said and done, I hope you've enjoyed reading and I'll see you all next week!
