LonelyBond #30 - Writing Characters 101

Wanna hear how I write my characters for LonelyBond?

Let's go.

This is a small part of a file I'm working on titled 'Characters' in the games 'Story' folder.

It contains a row for every character in the game, and a column for everything that I want to know about that character.

This can be used as a 'Cheat Sheet' of sort when I write down dialogue or scenes with that characters, but it also helps me make the characters deeper, with their own wants and traits.

Thanks to this I can also navigate the plot with points in a way that will make sense for the characters growth and interests. It's pretty damn helpful.

But what you can see in the picture is only some of the columns that I've written down. The full list is actually a biiiittt longer:

• Name

• Age

• Gender

• Physical Appearance

• Wants

• Why it wants it

• Problems to achieve it's wants

• Biggest flaw

• Traits

• Speaking Patterns

• Friends

• Enemies

• Other Relations

• History

• Club

• Hobbies

• Hateful Things

• Obsessed with

• One sentence that holds the 'Truth of the character'

So that's quite a bit of work, but it is well worth it (at least in my opinion).

I've been working on expanding the characters list to include all the characters (it still doesn't) and I've continued to work on the lore, key points in the story and the first chapter breakdown (which if you've missed, you can read more about how I create that chapter in here)

But working only on plot kind of fries my brain, so I decided to do some more character art work!

This is my experiment to make the character look a bit more physical (and interesting).
